Alpha started in October 1977 at Holy Trinity Brompton church, London. Since 1992 the Alpha course has seen astonishing growth from just five courses running in the United Kingdom in 1992 to over 7,000 registered UK Alpha courses, and over 60,000 courses running worldwide in 163 countries in 111 languages.
